The Shift: From Bayside Soapworks to Lantern & Veil

The Shift: From Bayside Soapworks to Lantern & Veil

If you’ve been here since the start, you know the Bayside Soapworks days. That was the time of kitchen table experiments and the kind of trial and error that only happens when you're first starting out. Bayside wasn't just a label; it was where we actually learned the chemistry and figured out what we wanted this brand to be in the first place. The 'vibe' of what we’re creating now—the deeper complexity of the scents and the overall mood—just felt like it was finally outgrowing its original skin.

So, we’re changing the sign on the door.

Why the Change?

People often ask why a business would walk away from an established name. For us, it wasn’t about leaving Bayside behind so much as it was about catching up to what we’ve already become.

Bayside was the foundation, plain and simple. We spent quite a bit of time just getting the chemistry right— how to make a bar of soap that actually lasts or learning how a fragrance lingers without being too much. Over time, we started to shift focus a little. We found ourselves moving toward formulas and scents that felt a bit more... meaningful. We needed a name that actually matched the depth of the work as well as what we offered.

The name Lantern & Veil is really about giving us room to grow beyond where we started. We wanted a brand that actually represented both sides of the brand. The 'Lantern' side is our home fragrance—the candles and scents that set the mood in a room. The 'Veil' side covers the bath and body line, focusing on the formulas and the way a product feels on your skin. It wasn’t about walking away from Bayside because something was broken; it was just time for a name that finally fit the full range of what we’re actually making these days.

The Important Stuff

A name change is a lot to take in, so we want to be upfront about what’s actually happening with the products you use every day. The short version?

Our Formulas... We aren't touching any of our current recipes. Soap, the shampoo bars, lotions-- we’re still using the exact same ingredients and the same small-batch process you’ve relied on. We wouldn't dream of changing the 'guts' of what we make just to put a new label on the bottle.

The Packaging... This is where you’ll see the shift. Moving toward more sustainable shipping materials wherever we can. Small changes to what's inside the box too.

For the new... we started exploring new product lines. This change is more than just a fresh label; it’s about having the room to expand what we offer without losing the small-batch quality that we started with in the first place.

Keeping the Roots

You’ll still see "Bayside Soapworks" pop up in our old blog posts, social media archives, and certain corners of our history. We aren't trying to erase where we started; we’re just proud of how much we’ve grown since those first messy batches in the kitchen. In fact, because of the long cure times required for our traditional soap, you might even see the Bayside name on a few of our bars for a little while longer as we transition our stock.

Rebranding can be scary, both for us as well as our current following. The new journey will mean some good things. So, to those that have been here, thank you. To anyone new... Hello, and welcome!
